Piasau is a school where children receive a quality education that is comparable to the best of its kind anywhere in the world.
In September 2007 and again in 2009, the school was
accredited by Fieldwork Education as a learning-focused school at mastering level. In 2009 Piasau School also received International Primary Curriculum accreditation at Mastering level.
The present number on roll is around 195, with 21 full-time teachers. The school is set in a very peaceful Piasau camp, a stone’s throw from the beach and the South China Sea. Children have the advantages of space and apparatus when outdoors and picturesque school in which to conduct their lessons. Children are provided with generous resources that allow the teaching to keep apace with advances in technology and education in general.
As well as classrooms the school has a reading scheme room, two well-stocked libraries, a music/video room, a computer suite, teachers’ resource centre and a large air-conditioned gymnasium. There are two play areas: a small self contained area for the youngest children and a large field which contains excellent play apparatus. All classrooms have interactive white boards in addition to computers for the children. A state of the art extension to the school has just been completed. This provides further specialist learning facilities.
The school is organised on an age basis. All the children follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Literacy and Numeracy are studied as set out in the English National Curriculum documents.
Piasau School also offers a Cultural Module for one hour each Wednesday afternoon when the children learn about different countries around the world. The school has also created the opportunity for parents to work in school with their own children teaching their own language and culture.
All children aged five and above will learn two languages. The English speaking children study French while those children who are already learning in a second language will have the option of parent led mother tongue lessons, French or extra English.
The school offers Dutch Language lessons to the Dutch-speaking children. These lessons take place during school time and are led by a fully qualified Dutch teacher. The amount of time spent on the Dutch lessons varies with the age of the child, but is approximately three hours a week.
