Information about the school
Rumukoroshe School is operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company Ltd of Nigeria. It is located in the Shell Residential Area in Port Harcourt. The Residential Area is large and spacious. There are several hundred houses on the camp and each one is set in its own tropical garden. There is a Shell Club complete with a 49 metre swimming pool, a coffee shop, bakery, bar and restaurant. Facilities on the camp include tennis and squash courts, a 9-hole golf course, an activity centre, a gym, children’s clinic, two children’s play areas, two grocery shops, a butchers, a small fruit and vegetable market and the school.
The school occupies a spacious site with a playing field and a hard surface play area. There are 10 classrooms, an ICT suite, a well-stocked library, a gymnasium, specialist art and music rooms, kitchen, staffroom and offices.
All the rooms, including the gymnasium, are air-conditioned. The school makes use of the Shell Club pool for swimming lessons.
Children come from a number of different nationalities and the school celebrates this diversity within the learning community. It is important aspect of the learning community.
The school has a team of 5 full time class teachers and a current school population of 36 children which will rise to approximately 50 children by July 2010. The increase is due to the closure of Ogunu school in Warri in December 2009 with children and teachers relocating to Port Harcourt.
The children follow the Primary Frameworks from England for both Literacy and Mathematics learning. All other subjects are taught through the International Primary Curriculum. Rumukoroshe is very much a learning-focused school and
strives constantly to keep this central to all that it does. The emphasis is on teachers helping children to learn in the best ways possible by taking into account their different learning styles and their multiple intelligences.
The school offers a lively programme of events for the children and their families throughout the school calendar. These include cultural celebrations, sharing learning assemblies and a diverse After School Activity programme that is supported by teachers, parents and members of the community.
There is an active Parent Teacher Association that works to promote the best learning and social opportunities for the children.
