Information about the school

Kidurong International School (formerly OSA School) is a small school enviably situated in the grounds of a sports and leisure club on the shore of the South China Sea on the island of Borneo.

Since September 2008 Kidurong has been a fully integrated international school. All lessons are taught in English. There is a Dutch language program after school hours. Kidurong International School is a very small school; this gives the school a very friendly atmosphere.

The school offers International Primary Curriculum although the English National Curriculum will be used as a base for mathematics and language. Facilities include 5 classrooms, a learning centre (incorporating a library and a computer suite with an inter-active whiteboard), a school hall and a school field.

As a learning-focused school, the aim is to encourage and enhance children’s learning. This is not just limited to learning in linguistic and mathematical areas, but also includes areas such as artistic, musical, physical and general academic development. The school also values learning in personal and social areas, and promotes the development of international understanding.

Currently there is a team of two teachers, and children from Nursery to Primary 8 age. The children are from a range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds, including Dutch, Croatian, Chinese, Italian, American and Malaysian.

Staff live in company housing about 5 minutes drive from the school. They have full use of the club facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts, gym, indoor sports halls, a restaurant etc. Locally, there are opportunities for jungle trekking, beach activities and water sports, including diving.

There are many opportunities to explore further afield both within Malaysia and in other South East Asian countries. Bintulu is a small bustling, thriving Malaysian town, located in the State of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. The local inhabitants are mainly Iban, Chinese and Malay. A few minutes outside town, you will find yourself in primary and secondary rain forest. The lush tropical rain forest offers a variety of products, which can be bought at the local markets in town.

There is easy road access to Kuching and Miri, where there is another Shell school, and air routes from Bintulu Airport to destinations in Sabah, Sarawak and West Malaysia. There are great opportunities to travel and explore Borneo, and other Asian environments.

The climate of Bintulu is hot and humid with a dry and wet season. Malaysia is a Muslim country and staff are expected to respect and be sensitive to all the Muslim customs and requirements.
